“This Is a Disaster! We Need To Provide Real Options for Students…”

I teach a destreamed grade 9 science class and it is an absolute disaster. There are 7 students who desperately require one on one support, or at the very least smaller class sizes. Because my time is focused on the students with special needs who require more support, the other 20 students are not getting the quality of education they deserve.

Putting these two groups of students in the same room means neither get what they need. The fact I cannot provide quality education for either group is so depressing I want to quit teaching altogether.

I'm so sad that the class size for those students needing one-on-one increased to 27 for one destreamed class, from their previous smaller class sizes. This is a disaster! We need to provide real options for students, and smaller class sizes would mean smaller classes for those who thrive with more one on one learning, and enriched classes for those who are excelling.
