“The Ford Government Is Setting Up Public Schools To Fail.”
The amount of money I spend every year on basic supplies has increased significantly since the Ford government has been in power. I have had to purchase school textbooks, facial tissue, pens. paper, art supplies, and even toilet paper to the tune of $400 out of my own pocket just this year. Our school no longer has the budget to keep up with basic supplies needed by staff and students.
The wait times for repairs in our school (painting, window repair, faulty plumbing) ... is TWO YEARS. There are not enough trades people working with the Board to handle the need for maintenance.
Finally, I have never seen so many young people shying away from teaching as a potential career. In our school alone, we have had three bright, enthusiastic, caring young teachers decide to abandon the profession after one year of service. They site poor working conditions, substandard pay, and unrealistic expectations as their motives for seeking employment elsewhere. The Ford government is setting up public schools to fail, and the students are the ones being hit the hardest.
