“Our Department Is Woefully Underfunded.”

I am a secondary science teacher. Our department is woefully underfunded. In order to have an interactive lesson, I frequently have to purchase materials on my own that I will not be reimbursed for since we don't have departmental funds to cover. When I've tallied my receipts for income tax purposes, it's been over $1000 that I've spent on classroom materials. I’m torn because I shouldn't be funding my class, but if I don't I can't have inquiry based activities students deserve.
