“Government Officials Have to Protect Our Right to Public Education.”
My daughter attended the IB program at Parkdale Collegiate, and I am horrified that others will no longer have the chance because of the funding cuts to the program. The reason cuts to this program in the TDSB are so significant? More than 80% of the students are racialized and/or immigrants. If we are serious about wanting to diversify leaders in our society, we should be supporting programs like IB which have been shown to develop leaders of diverse backgrounds.
For my daughter, the IB program allowed her to learn about how science, humanities, and the arts matter in the context of the world and local community. If there had been fees we would not have been able to unroll her into the program, and my daughter would not have had the huge benefits.
Public education means no fees. Government officials have to protect our right to public education.
