“I Get Assaulted Daily on the Job.”
I have been working for the Toronto District School Board for 20 years.
There have been drastic changes that sadly have affected the ability to work safely for the TDSB, from staff cuts to increased class sizes for our most vulnerable students.
I get assaulted daily on the job. I have suffered 2 concussions over the past 6 years. Almost daily, I fill out violent incident reports for student on student physical violence & student on staff physical violence. Last year alone, I had filled out over multiple Violent incident reports which resulted in 0 action to help a student or myself.
Many staff including myself are already feeling burnt out and it's only mid October. Not sure how much more I can tolerate before I end up having a mental breakdown due to the workload and my concern for my students’ safety. I feel we are no longer educators, but instead being asked to be therapists, social workers, nurses, caretakers & punching bags.
To top it off trying to get a child who's in crisis and psychological assessment in the board has a list longer than a football field. Educators have been leaving our board an increasingly rapid pace due to the overwhelming workload put upon us now.
