“I Am Very Worried for Our Kids’ Wellbeing.”

My kids are attending the French Immersion program in North York. In my daughter’s class JK/SK there are 29 kids. The class’ ECE got in a car accident in December and since then we have not been able to get another ECE that speaks French, so we have had an English one.

Then in May, the main French teacher has been on leave for personal health reasons. Since then the kids have not had a French teacher or French ECE. The kids only have an ECE and a lunch room supervisor to teach them. In fact, my daughter’s class has ended up with the lunch room supervisor full time - someone who is not a teacher nor speaks French. When I talked to the principal was told that there are no supply teachers at all.

I am very worried for our kids’ wellbeing. It’s hard enough to learn with so many kids in the classroom, but without a teacher? They are just not learning. The JK kids are very young and they need a lot of support. Our kids are being left behind - plain and simple. Our kids’ right to education is been violated and we as parents feel left out and unable to help our kids. Meanwhile, the teachers are stressed out and we as society and nation will loose our future without education for all.
